Grub Hub or Door Dash Hijack your GMB?
If you are a restaurant owner you may be dismayed to see that there is a call to action button on your Google My Business (GMB) page now that says Call Grub Hub now to order your food. TripAdvisor allowed Grub Hub to hijack your listing as well!
Unbeknownst to restaurant owners, apparently Google sold permission to these sites to promote their business on your GMB. Maybe you have your own order online service. Maybe you are unsatisfied with these services or they are charging your customers to order food from you!
Google didn't exactly send anyone an email or call and announce it. They just did it. Grub Hub certainly didn't ask for your permission. They just did it!
I found out this practice as a client sent me a text with "What the heck, remove them now!" Interestingly the hours of the business changed on GMB as well. Frustrating.
So I went online, checked out the GMB page and there it was, Grub Hub. I then proceeded to call Grub Hub and the first person I spoke to said, "Please hold and I will connect you to that department to remove it" and I was on hold for 30 minutes before I hung up.
I went back to Google and found this nice page that they have which says "Opt Out of Online Food Orders on Google." After filling out the form it said it would take a few days to get removed.
In case you didn't know, TripAdvisor does the same thing? Yep, another Grub Hub call to action button. Ridiculous. When I first found out I contacted the one who constantly bugs me about advertising with them and she wrote back, "To remove the Grubhub widget from your listing, you will need to contact them directly and ask them to remove it from your TripAdvisor feed."
"Hello Ms. TripAdvisor. You OWN TripAdvisor, take it off!" I responded. For the first time ever, TripAdvisor didn't respond again.
I hope this helps those of you who at least can remove it from GMB. I will still waiting for TripAdvisor.
